  • Who is Kelly McKernan?

Kelly McKernan is a fine artist and illustrator from Atlanta, Georgia, currently based in Nashville, Tennessee. Kelly obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kennesaw State University, with a concentration in drawing and painting.

Kelly’s current body of work examines the personal growth that results from internal struggle. Her ethereal women are often battling the opposing forces of natural inclination and cognitive reasoning, or they may be seen in their moment of resolution, finally understanding their strengths, weaknesses, and desires. The multi-layered settings in Kelly’s work reflect her own fascinations and discoveries as a woman with a penchant for idealism, on a journey toward self-awareness.

Kelly has been exhibiting her work with numerous galleries since 2009, including notable spaces such as Thinkspace Gallery, Gallery 1988, Spoke Art, Gallery Nucleus, and Subtext Gallery. She also began her work as an illustrator in the same year and has illustrated three children’s book to date. Kelly is also a member of the PRISMA Artist Collective.

  • What type of prints do you make?

The printer I use is an Epson Stylus R2000, which produces very fine quality prints true to color and depth. The artwork in question is personally scanned by myself at 600 dpi and color corrected to match the original. The paper is Legion Moab 300# Rag Bright hot press paper.

  • Why are you selling open edition prints of a sold out limited edition print?

Some of my open edition prints were previously available as a limited edition print, which sold out. They are the same image, but there are many significant differences.

My limited edition prints are sold at their largest available dimension, within a specific edition size (usually 25), arrive signed and numbered, and as of late 2015, they also come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Once their edition size has sold out, they are never printed at that size and on that specific paper again.

Once the original limited edition run sells out, I reserve the right release an open edition print of that image if there is enough demand for it. Any ensuing open edition prints are significantly smaller than the original limited run (i.e. 16" x 20" LE vs 8" x 10" OE). They are not signed, numbered, or come with a CoA. They are also unlimited in edition size.

I realize this may frustrate some collectors of my limited edition prints, but this practice is not uncommon and it is completely within my rights.

If you have any questions or concerns about this, please do not hesitate to get in contact with me!

  • Do you take commissions?

Yes I do! Please don't hesitate to get in touch with your idea and we'll get things rolling. I am usually able to work with your budget, but I can also provide you with an estimate based on size and complexity.

  • I bought a painting or a print. Does this mean I own the copyright?

No, it does not. You own the painting/print, but not the copyright. This means that it is illegal for you to reproduce the painting/print for profit or to use the image in any way without my explicit permission.

  • Can I get a tattoo of one of your paintings?

Of course! I only ask that you consider purchasing something from my shop. While it’s super flattering that you want my artwork to be a part of your body, that doesn’t help me to pay the bills and continue doing what I love for a living. Please get in touch with photos of the finished tattoo – I’d love to see it!
